NEW BELLY DANCE CLASS COMING SEPTEMBER 14th, offered in south Seattle

I will be teaching an 8 week belly dance concept and choreography class from 7:00-8:30 pm, September 14 - November 9, with a vacation the week of October 12th. THEME AND VARIATIONS: How to Dress Up Your Dance is the title and focus of this class series. We will use warm-ups and drills to explore the many possibilities for variation in our dance, employing these variations to create expression. The second half of class will be devoted to learning a choreography that showcases our expansive repertoire of variation.

Cost is $100 for the 8 week course, and class size is limited to 8 dancers. Due to the nature of this class structure, there are no drop-in classes offered. Registrants will receive a syllabus for the class, as well as a recording of and lyrics for Gana al Howa, the piece used for the choreography. Session runs September 14 - November 9, with a vacation on October 12th.
Private lessons are also available.

Seattle Middle Eastern Orchestra is a new opportunity to study and perform middle eastern music under the tutelage of some of Seattles most respected musicians. Michael Nageub, George Sadak, Jane Hall, and Tracy Helming will form the core of the faculty and will be joined by guest artists as the program builds. Each class is team taught by a melodic instrumentalist and a percussive instrumentalist. Classes include instruction on maqamat, rhythms, stylization, and language as well as repertoire. Each student receives a packet of music and a recording of the music that is studied and played over the course of the quarter. Once every other month we will host a hafla where all faculty and students available can perform. Invite families, friends, dancers, and the community for a little celebration! Classes are held at the Ottoman Trading Company in Bothell. Course fee is $144 for 8 classes, beginning September 19th, 4:00 - 5:30 p.m. with a kick-off hafla following.

WORKSHOPS

Alimahs workshops draw on her background as a violinist and her studies of middle eastern music and dance to give you insight into how to dance like a musician. Fiery, inspiring, and sure to make you sweat, each workshop is designed to deliver concepts that will expand the individuality of each participant. Most workshops are geared toward participants of all levels, though you may tailor a workshop to your particular needs and desires.

In her signature workshop style, you will spend the first half of class drilling concepts with movements and travel steps, then apply that focus to combos, shines, and structured improvisation in the 2nd half of class.

Alimah is also available for private instruction, small group masterclasses, and choreographies, and teaches out of her studio on Beacon Hill in Seattle, Washington. She has taught workshops throughout the Northwest.

Contact Alimah for rates, availability and workshop topics.
