WELCOME TO THE ARTIST CIRCLE
SPONSORING EVENTS AND DIALOGUE THAT PROMOTE ARTISTRY IN BELLY DANCE
Artist Circle is an ever expanding collective that aims to nurture, validate, and exalt the creative essence of the dance artist through both experimental means, and tried and true methods.
The Beginnings
It began with two dancers and their desire to deepen the creative experience of Middle Eastern dance. Alimah and Manon began meeting for evenings of belly dance brain storming where they explored concepts and ideas to bring new dimensions and meaning to their dance. They soon discovered there were other dancers who shared their interest. Soon after, Artists Circle was born.
A diverse group of dancers began gathering on a regular basis to share concepts, ideas and movements, all in the spirit of creative development. Rather than structuring the sessions as workshops or private lessons, the gatherings are communal arenas where each participant shares her concept and illustrates it through dance. Instead of allowing the choreographic nature of steps and combinations to define expression, it is the concepts that underlie the movements that are the focus of Artist Circle.
Participation is unlimited: anyone who embraces artistic development and has something to share is welcome. There have been and continue to be truly transformative experiences during the sessions, for themselves and for those with whom they share it. Dancing colors, temperatures, intensities and interactive improv are just a few of the ideas that have undulated and shimmied through the collective dance space. Truly, fine work is being developed by this collective.
Though they come from different dance backgrounds and styles, it is a wonderful collaboration, and is fueled by the spark of friendship and community that comes from women dancing for women. Welcome to Artist Circle and the creativity it supports!
